Kapit bölümü, Sibu bölümünden sonraki iç kısımları kapsar. Alanı 38.934 km2'dir. Kapit'in idari alanı Kapit, Belaga ve Song bölgelerini içerir. Bu üç ilçe, Kapit Belediye Meclisi tarafından yönetilmektedir. 2000 yılı nüfus sayımına dayanan ilçe meclisi idaresi altındaki toplam nüfus 98.841'dir. Kapit nüfusu sadece 56.709. Kapitenin nüfusunun çoğunluğu İban halkı, ardından Çinli ve Malaylılar izliyor. Kapit, dabai ve durian meyveleri ile ünlüdür. Kapit Town, Rejang Nehri kıyısında yer almaktadır.
