Скасування є юридичною процедурою визнання шлюбу недійсним. На відміну від розлучення, вона, як правило, має зворотну силу, що означає, що анульований шлюб вважається недійсним з самого початку майже так, ніби це ніколи не відбулося. Наприклад, це стосується розділу 12 закону про подружні причини 1973 року в Англії та Уельсі. В юридичній термінології анулювання робить недійсним шлюб недійсним. Якщо шлюб є недійсним ab initio, то він автоматично вважається нульовим, хоча для встановлення цього вимагається декларація про недійсність. Процес отримання декларації про недійсність аналогічний процесу скасування. Незважаючи на зворотну силу природи, діти, народжені до скасування, вважаються законними у багатьох країнах.
