Casuistry / kæʒuːɨstri /, або випадкові міркування, є методом прикладної етики та юриспруденції, часто характеризується як критика принципових або правильних міркувань. Слово "казуїстика" походить від латинського казуса. Казуїстія є міркуванням, яке використовується для вирішення моральних проблем шляхом вилучення або розширення теоретичних правил з окремих випадків та застосування цих правил до нових випадків. Цей термін також широко використовується як приниження критикувати використання розумних, але необгрунтованих міркувань, особливо стосовно моральних питань. Погоджений зміст "казуїстики" перебуває у потоці. Цей термін може бути використаний як для опису передбачуваної прийнятної форми міркування, так і для форм міркування, яка за своєю суттю є нецільною та обманною. Більшість або всі філософські словники вказують нейтральний зміст як перше або єдине визначення. З іншого боку, Оксфордський словник англійської мови стверджує, що слово "ften застосовується до хибливий або ухильний спосіб вирішення важких справ служби".
