Katarakt
Ein Katarakt ist eine Trübung der Linse im Auge, die zu einer Abnahme der Sehkraft führt. Es ist die häufigste Ursache für Blindheit und wird konventionell mit Chirurgie behandelt. Visueller Verlust tritt auf, weil die Trübung des Objektivs das Licht vom Passieren beeinträchtigt und auf die Netzhaut an der Rückseite des Auges fokussiert wird. Es ist am häufigsten wegen des Alterns, aber es gibt viele andere Ursachen. Im Laufe der Zeit wird gelbbraunes Pigment in der Linse abgelagert, und dies zusammen mit einer Störung der Linsenfasern reduziert die Lichtdurchlässigkeit und führt zu visuellen Problemen. Diejenigen mit Katarakten erleben oft Schwierigkeiten bei der Wertschätzung von Farben und Veränderungen im Kontrast, Fahren, Lesen, Erkennen von Gesichtern und Bewältigung von Blendung von hellen Lichtern.
