Kochi
Kochi (auch hören), auch bekannt als Cochin, ist eine bedeutende Hafenstadt an der Westküste Indiens am Arabischen Meer und gehört zum Bezirk Ernakulam im Bundesstaat Kerala. Kochi wird oft mit dem Namen Ernakulam bezeichnet, der sich auf das Festland der Stadt bezieht. Die Stadt Kochi (Pop. 601.574) ist die am dichtesten besiedelte Stadt des Staates und gehört zu einer ausgedehnten Metropolregion (2,1 Millionen Einwohner), die die größte städtische Agglomeration in Kerala ist. Kochi Stadt ist auch ein Teil der Groß-Cochin Region und wird als B-1-Klasse Stadt von der Regierung von Indien eingestuft, so dass es die höchste abgestufte Stadt in Kerala. Die Zivilgesellschaft, die die Stadt regiert, ist die Corporation of Cochin, die im Jahre 1967 gegründet wurde, und die gesetzlichen Gremien, die ihre Entwicklung beaufsichtigen, sind die Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) und die Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA).
