Eine Hydathode ist eine Art sekretorisches Gewebe in Blättern, die gewöhnlich in Angiospermen gefunden wird, die Wasser durch Poren in der Epidermis oder im Rand der Blätter, typischerweise an der Spitze eines Randzahns oder einer Zahnung, sezerniert. Hydathoden werden hauptsächlich in Wasserpflanzen gefunden und in einigen krautigen Pflanzen, die an feuchten Orten wachsen. Sie haben sich wahrscheinlich aus modifizierten Stomata entwickelt und sind mit dem Pflanzengefäßsystem durch ein Gefäßbündel verbunden. Hydathoden werden häufig in Wasser Salat, Wasserhyazinthe, Rose, Balsam und viele andere Arten gesehen. Hydathoden bestehen aus einer Gruppe lebender Zellen mit zahlreichen interzellulären Räumen, die mit Wasser gefüllt sind, aber nur wenige oder keine Chloroplasten und stellen modifizierte Bündelenden dar. Diese Zellen öffnen sich in eine oder mehrere sub-epidermale Kammern. Diese wiederum kommunizieren mit dem Äußeren durch ein offenes Wasserstoma oder eine offene Pore. Das Wasser-Stoma ähnelt strukturell einem gewöhnlichen Stoma, ist aber meist größer und hat die Kraft der Bewegung verloren. Hydathoden sind in den Prozess der Ausstoßung involviert, in dem positiver Xylemdruck Flüssigkeit aus den Poren ausströmt.

A hydathode is a type of secretory tissue in leaves, usually found in Angiosperms, that secretes water through pores in the epidermis or margin of leaves, typically at the tip of a marginal tooth or serration. Hydathodes are mainly found in aquatic plants and in some herbaceous plants growing in moist places. They probably evolved from modified stomata, and are connected to the plant vascular system by a vascular bundle. Hydathodes are commonly seen in water lettuce, water hyacinth, rose, balsam, and many other species. Hydathodes are made of a group of living cells with numerous intercellular spaces filled with water, but few or no chloroplasts, and represent modified bundle-ends. These cells open out into one or more sub-epidermal chambers. These, in turn, communicate with the exterior through an open water stoma or open pore. The water stoma structurally resembles an ordinary stoma, but is usually larger and has lost the power of movement. Hydathodes are involved in the process of guttation, in which positive xylem pressure causes liquid to exude from the pores.
