Gesandtschaft
In der Diplomatie war eine Gesandtschaft eine diplomatische Repräsentanz, die niedriger war als eine Botschaft. Wo eine Botschaft von einem Botschafter geleitet wurde, wurde eine Gesandtschaft von einem außerordentlichen Gesandten und Ministerbevollmächtigten geleitet. Die Unterscheidung zwischen einer Gesandtschaft und einer Botschaft wurde nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg allmählich unterbrochen. Diplomatische Repräsentanzen werden nun als Botschaften, Konsulate, ständige Missionen oder hohe Provisionen bezeichnet.
