Oper
Die Oper ist eine Kunstform, in der Sänger und Musiker eine dramatische Arbeit ausführen, die Text und Musikpartitur kombiniert, meist in einer theatralischen Umgebung. Opera enthält viele der Elemente des gesprochenen Theaters, wie Schauspiel, Landschaft und Kostüme und manchmal auch Tanz. Die Aufführung erfolgt typischerweise in einem Opernhaus, begleitet von einem Orchester oder einem kleineren musikalischen Ensemble. Die Oper ist Teil der westlichen klassischen Musiktradition. Es begann in Italien am Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts und verbreitete sich bald durch den Rest Europas: Schütz in Deutschland, Lully in Frankreich und Purcell in England alle haben dazu beigetragen, ihre nationalen Traditionen im 17. Jahrhundert zu etablieren. Im 18. Jahrhundert beherrschte die italienische Oper weiterhin den Großteil Europas, außer Frankreich und zog ausländische Komponisten wie Händel an. Opera seria war die prestigeträchtigste Form der italienischen Oper, bis Gluck gegen seine Künstlichkeit mit seinen "Reform" Opern in den 1760er Jahren reagierte.
