Saflor
Saflor ist eine hochverzweigte, krautige, distelähnliche jährliche Pflanze. Es wird kommerziell für pflanzliches Öl aus den Samen extrahiert kultiviert. Pflanzen sind 30 bis 150 cm hoch mit kugelförmigen Blütenköpfen mit gelben, orangen oder roten Blüten. Jeder Zweig wird in der Regel von einem bis fünf Blütenköpfe mit 15 bis 20 Samen pro Kopf. Saflor ist heimisch in trockenen Umgebungen mit saisonalen Regen. Es wächst eine tiefe Taproot, die es ermöglicht, in solchen Umgebungen zu gedeihen.
