Eine Couch oder ein Sofa ist ein Möbelstück für zwei oder mehr Personen in Form einer Bank, mit oder ohne Armlehnen, die teilweise oder ganz gepolstert ist und oft mit Federn und maßgeschneiderten Kissen ausgestattet ist. Obwohl eine Couch hauptsächlich für die Sitzung verwendet wird, kann sie zum Liegen und Nickerchen verwendet werden. In den Häusern, Sofas sind normalerweise im Familienzimmer, Wohnzimmer, Höhle, Wohnzimmer oder die Lounge gefunden. Sie finden sich auch in Hotels, Lobbys von Handelsbüros, Wartezimmern, Möbelgeschäften usw. Der Begriff Couch wird in Nordamerika, Australien, Neuseeland verwendet, während der Begriff Sofa in der Regel im Vereinigten Königreich verwendet wird. Das Wort entstand in Mitteldeutsch aus dem altfranzösischen Nomen couche, das aus dem Verb hervorgeht, das bedeutet, sich hinzusetzen. Es war ursprünglich ein Möbelstück zum Liegen oder Schlafen, etwas wie eine Chaiselongue, aber jetzt bezieht sich auf Sofas im Allgemeinen.
