Ein Windschutz oder Schutzgürtel ist eine Plantage, die gewöhnlich aus einer oder mehreren Reihen von Bäumen oder Sträuchern besteht, die so gepflanzt sind, dass sie Schutz vor dem Wind bieten und den Boden vor Erosion schützen. Sie sind häufig um die Ränder der Felder auf Bauernhöfen gepflanzt. Wenn richtig entworfen, können Windbreaks um ein Haus die Kosten für Heizung und Kühlung reduzieren und Energie sparen. Windbreaks sind auch gepflanzt, um zu helfen, Schnee vom Treiben auf Fahrbahnen und sogar Yards zu halten. Weitere Vorteile sind die Bereitstellung von Lebensraum für Wildtiere und in einigen Regionen werden die Bäume für Holzprodukte geerntet. Windbreaks und Intercropping können in einer landwirtschaftlichen Praxis kombiniert werden, die als Alleycropping bezeichnet wird.
