Zither
Die Zither ist ein musikalisches Streichinstrument, bestehend aus vielen Saiten, die sich über einen dünnen, flachen Körper erstrecken. Es wird gespielt, indem man die Saiten fängt oder zappt, entweder mit den Fingern, oder mit einem Werkzeug namens Plektrum. Wie eine Gitarre oder Laute, ein Zither-Körper dient als Sound-Box, aber im Gegensatz zu ihnen hat eine Zither keinen Hals. Die Anzahl der Saiten variiert von bis zu zwölf auf mehr als fünfzig. Der Begriff "Zither" bezieht sich organologisch auf eine breite Familie von eurasischen Musikinstrumenten, aber im modernen Gebrauch bezieht sich am häufigsten auf eines von drei Instrumenten: die Konzertzither und ihre Variante die Alpenzither und die Fretless-Zither. Zither findet man am häufigsten in Slowenien, Österreich, Ungarn, Nordwestkroatien, den südlichen Regionen Deutschlands, alpinen Europa und ostasiatischen Kulturen, darunter auch China. Das Instrument erlebte in den späten 1940er Jahren bis in die 1960er Jahre einen populären Boom und Wiederaufleben, nach seinem prominenten Erfolg als Thema Musik des gefeierten 1949 Film Noir, The Third Man.
