Tundra
In der physikalischen Geographie ist die Tundra eine Art von Biomasse, bei der das Baumwachstum durch niedrige Temperaturen und eine kurze Vegetationsperiode stagniert. Der Begriff Tundra stammt aus der russischen Sprache, die die Tundra aus der Kildin-Sami-Sprache entlehnt, das Wort tūndâr "Hochland", "Berggebiet ohne Bäume". Es gibt drei Arten von Tundra: die arktische Tundra, die Tundra-Alp und die antarktische Tundra. Das Tundra-Klima wird im Klimaklassifikationssystem von Köppen als ET ausgedrückt. Im Tundra-Gebiet bestehen die Pflanzen aus Zwergsträuchern, Spinnen, Gras, Moos und Kalksträuchern sowie verstreuten Bäumen. Die Ökotonnen zwischen der Tundra und dem Wald sind als Holzrestriktionen bekannt.
