Der Präzeptor oder der Präzeptor ist eine Person, die im medizinischen Bereich verantwortlich ist für die Durchführung und Überwachung der Entwicklung von Ärzten, die in den Spezialgebieten eines Krankenhauses wohnen, durch Beratung und Nachsorge. Der Wortvorsteher kann auch verwendet werden, um die Person zu bestimmen, die für die Begleitung und Führung der Erziehung eines Kindes oder Jugendlichen verantwortlich ist, häufiger in Internaten. Alle Fachleute, die für die Begleitung von Patienten aus dem Gesundheitsbereich zuständig sind und die Patienten betreuen, werden als Präzeptoren bezeichnet. Der Lehrer muss eine vollständige Ausbildung in dem Bereich haben, in dem er arbeiten soll, sei es in der Pharmazie, Logopädie, Physiotherapie, Krankenpflege, Ernährung, Sport, Zahnmedizin oder Medizin.

A palavra preceptor pode ser utilizada também para designar a pessoa incumbida de acompanhar e orientar a educação de uma criança ou de um adolescente, mais comumente em internatos. Todos os profissionais responsáveis por acompanhamento de alunos da área da saúde que irão realizar atendimento a pacientes são chamados preceptores. O preceptor deverá ter formação completa na área em que for atuar, seja na farmácia, fonoaudiologia, fisioterapia, enfermagem, nutrição, educação física, odontologia ou medicina.
