Logik Programmiersprache. Die Computersprache der fünften Generation, die in Anwendungen der künstlichen Intelligenz verwendet wird. Es wurde von Alain Colmerauer und seiner Arbeitsgruppe an der Universität Marseille Aix in Frankreich in den frühen 1970er Jahren erfunden. Französisch kommt von dem Wort "Programmation en Logique". Studien, mit denen sichergestellt werden soll, dass die Logik direkt als Computersprache genutzt werden kann, haben ebenfalls in den frühen 1980er Jahren an Bedeutung gewonnen. 1981 wurde das japanische Interesse an diesem Thema durch die Ankündigung des Computerprojekts der fünften Generation stark erhöht. Prolog hat eine Reihe von Büchern zu verschiedenen Zielen und Ebenen veröffentlicht und einen Sprachstandard festgelegt. Damit ein Computer ein bestimmtes Problem lösen kann, müssen Informationen über das Problem und die Lösung bereitgestellt werden. Es kann über Programmiersprachen mit menschlichen Computern kommunizieren. Prolog ist ein Werkzeug, das den Menschen dabei unterstützt, die notwendigen Methoden zur Identifizierung und Lösung des Problems mit logischen und symbolischen Denkstrukturen zu entwickeln.

Fransızca "Programmation en Logique" kelimesinden gelmektir. Mantığın doğrudan doğruya bir bilgisayar dili olarak kullanılabilmesini sağlamak amacıyla yapılan çalışmalar da 1980 yıllarının başlarında da yoğunluk kazanmıştır. 1981 yılında Japonlar beşinci nesil bilgisayar projesini açıklamalarıyla da konuya olan ilgi büyük bir ölçüde artmıştır. Prolog üzerine çeşitli amaç ve seviyelerde birçok kitap yayınlanmış ve dilin bir standardı oluşmuştur. Bilgisayarın belirli bir problemi çözebilmesi için kendisine problemle ve çözüm yoluyla ilgili bilgi verilmesi gereklidir. Programlama dilleri aracılığıyla insan bilgisayarlarla iletişim kurabilir. Prolog mantıksal ve sembolik düşünmeye uygun yapısıyla, problemin tanımlanması ve çözümü için gerekli yöntemlerin geliştirilmesi aşamalarında insanoğluna yardımcı olan bir araçtır.
