The ancient Greek term Akme means "maturity", "climax". "Acne" is derived from this. ▪ In ancient times the term was used in historiography for the chronological classification of persons. This was the time around the age of forty, which was assumed to reach the climax of his creative power. The Latin equivalent of this subject was floruit, the verb florere. NN floruit anno X is called "NN bloomed in the year X", which means "NN was 40 years old in the year X". In this sense, the term akme for the designation of the age of 40 is still used today in Classical Classical Studies; In the mediaeval tradition one speaks of the "floruit" of a person. Another common Latin translation of akme in ancient sources is clarus habetur. ▪ In medicine, Akme refers to the disease peak or the highest level of the fever curve.

Der altgriechische Begriff Akme bedeutet „Reife“, „Höhepunkt“. Davon ist „Akne“ abgeleitet. ▪ In der Antike wurde der Begriff in der Geschichtsschreibung für die chronologische Einordnung von Personen verwendet. Gemeint war die Zeit um das 40. Lebensjahr, von der man annahm, dass der Mensch hier den Höhepunkt seiner Schaffenskraft erreiche. Das lateinische Äquivalent dieses Fachbegriffs war floruit, vom Verb florere. NN floruit anno X heißt "NN blühte im Jahr X", das bedeutet: "NN war im Jahr X 40 Jahre alt". In diesem Sinne wird der Begriff akme zur Bezeichnung des 40. Lebensjahrs in der Klassischen Altertumswissenschaft noch heute verwendet; in der Mediävistik spricht man analog vom "floruit" einer Person. Eine andere häufige lateinische Übersetzung von akme in antiken Quellen ist clarus habetur. ▪ In der Medizin bezeichnet Akme den Krankheitshöhepunkt bzw. den höchsten Stand der Fieberkurve.
