Bioelement

A bioelement or biogenic element is a chemical element which is contained in the living substance of living organisms and has to be taken up by them in an inorganic or organic form. Apart from carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, the main nutrients nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, potassium, calcium and magnesium are essential for plants. In addition to these main nutrients, animals also require sodium, iron and chlorine in larger quantities. Magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium and chlorine are often combined as so-called macronutrients. In many organisms, they account for only about 0.1% of organic matter, but are essential for central functions. Some bioelements are only necessary for some planting tips. For example, the Chenopodiaceae require sodium, the Fabaceae with their nitrogen-fixing symbionts cobalt, some ferns aluminum. Some animal groups also need special bioelements, so some species of the raystones rely on strontium for the construction of the skeletal elements. Mantled animals need vanadium.
