WHAT DOES CASTOREUM MEAN IN GERMAN?

Bibergeil

Bibergeil, also Castoreum, is a secretion from the beaver's bags of the beaver. The secretion consists of a complex mixture of chemical compounds, which are probably formed from secondary metabolites of the urine. The beaver uses the fat-containing secretion for coat care and marking its area. The two twenty-one-hundred-gram-heavy, roughly cattle-sized glands of the beaver, which are situated between the anus and the sexes of both sexes, are taken from the slaughtered animal and smoked. A gauntlet is bag-shaped and surrounded by a brown-black wrinkled sheath. The substance contained therein is resinous and brownish. The smell resembles that of valerian, the taste can be described as bitter, sharp and aromatic.
