teratoma

Teratom

A teratoma, sometimes called a miraculous tubercle, is a congenital, often organ-like, mixed tumor developed from primitive, pluripotent stem cells. One distinguishes mature and immature forms. The teratoma is a germ cell tumor, which can therefore develop in the direction of all three cotyledons. Mature forms may contain tissues, such as hair or teeth, which would not occur in the place of their occurrence and which has not emerged from a metaplasia. Usually it is in an encapsulated form, which contains different differentiated tissue types, for example skin, hair, teeth, muscle and nerve tissue. If, therefore, it contains a differentiated tissue of all cotyledons, it is called an adult or mature teratoma; Immature or embryonic teratomas contain little differentiated epithelial or mesenchymal tissue. Teratomas are particularly common in the testes and ovaries.
