osteoid

Osteoid

Osteoid is the soft, not yet mineralized, basic substance of the bone tissue, which is formed by osteoblasts. The osteoid makes up about half of the bone volume and about a quarter of the bone weight. In the case of disturbed mineralization or disturbed osteoblast function, an increase in the osteoid occurs. This process is called osteomalacia. The rickets in the child's age is thus caused by vitamin D deficiency.
