Pollen

The pollen or pollen is the most common mealy-like mass formed in the anthers of the seed plants. It consists of the pollen granules, the microspores. Linguistically, pollen is a collective name; A single microspore is not a pollen but a pollutant. The pollen grain is the result of a reduction division and thus has only a simple set of chromosomes, which is haploid. It thus corresponds to the spores of the mosses and ferns. The pollutants are surrounded by a resistant cell wall consisting, inter alia, of sporopollenin. At the time of release, the pollen grains have already developed into the male gametophytes. Pollen granules serve to protect the male germ cells to the female receiving organs, thus ensuring pollination and, subsequently, fertilization. Microspores are the pollen grains since male and female spores differ in the size of seed plants. Meiospores they are, since they are the product of a meiosis.
