fremitus

Stimmfremitus

A vocalfrequency or fremitus is understood to mean the slight vibration, which can be felt in various situations when speaking through the hand placed on the patient's chest. For this purpose, the patient, when examining words with deep vowels, speaks with a deep voice, while the doctor places his hands on the patient's chest or back. The basis is the principle that deep frequencies are filtered off by airy alveoli, but intensified by pathological infiltrations. Increased vocal tone occurs when the lung tissue is compressed, For example in pneumonia. The vocal tone is attenuated in the case of an atelectasis or a pleural cavity. He is greatly weakened or abolished by a pleural effusion or pneumothorax. See also: Bronchophonie ...
