Indignation

Indignation means indignation, indignation in the sense of a moral feeling. The corresponding adjective is indignant. According to Meyer's Great Conversation Encyclopaedia of 1905, Indignation is the "indignation, righteous disgust over an unworthy act of morality." The term stands alongside emotions such as resentment, shame and guilt, mostly for reacting with a negative feeling to the - According to own judgment - bad action of another. Indignation is a personal or communal expression of the perceived degradation which occurs in violation and violation of a social norm by a third party. It also serves as a means of sanctioning and restoring the integrity of this norm. As a polemical means, it can be used just as manipulatively conformist as can be provoked critically. "Indignant" can only react to the person who is committed to such a norm and sees it bound in behavior and self-understanding. "Indignation" can thus be understood as a spontaneous or mediated reaction to a conflict of legitimations.
