The leaf is the organ of the flower which carries the ovules. It is thus a Megasporophyll. The term "scaly leaf" should only be used in the case of pests. While in the Nacktsamern the seed plants lie freely and directly accessible on the surface of the megasporophylle, they are protected in the covermakers in a cavity formed by folding and waxing the Fruchtblattränder. Fruit leaves and other flower parts later form the fruit surrounding the seed. The totality of all the petals of a flower, including the ovules contained therein, is called a gynoeceum. The leaflets are typically divided into a basal, congenital-fused area, and a folded section overlying them, in which the lateral edges of the leaf of the broth only grow together in the course of ontogenesis. The waxing leaves a seam. In most cases, the tissue regions that produce the ovules are located along this seam on the inner side of the fruit leaf. The fertile section of the fruit leaf with the seed plants is called fruit node or also ovary.

Das Fruchtblatt ist das Organ der Blüte, das die Samenanlagen trägt. Es ist also ein Megasporophyll. Der Begriff „Fruchtblatt“ sollte nur bei Bedecktsamern verwendet werden. Während bei den Nacktsamern die Samenanlagen frei und direkt zugänglich auf der Oberfläche der Megasporophylle liegen, sind sie bei den Bedecktsamern geschützt in einem durch Faltung und Verwachsung der Fruchtblattränder entstandenen Hohlraum eingeschlossen. Fruchtblätter und andere Blütenteile bilden später die den Samen umgebende Frucht. Die Gesamtheit aller Fruchtblätter einer Blüte einschließlich der darin enthaltenen Samenanlagen bezeichnet man als Gynoeceum. Fruchtblätter gliedern sich typischerweise in einen basalen, congenital-verwachsenen Bereich und einen darüberliegenden gefalteten Abschnitt, in dem die seitlichen Ränder des Fruchtblatts erst im Verlauf der Ontogenese miteinander verwachsen. Die Verwachsung hinterlässt eine Naht. Meist befinden sich längs dieser Naht auf der Innenseite des Fruchtblattes die Gewebebereiche, die die Samenanlagen hervorbringen. Der fertile Abschnitt des Fruchtblattes mit den Samenanlagen heißt Fruchtknoten oder auch Ovar.
