Libation

libation

Trankopfer

The libation or libation is a form of the sacrifice. At the cult place, but also in profane places, liquids are shed over a sacred object. Through archaeological discoveries, vessels have been documented for pottery victims in the eastern Mediterranean and in Mesopotamia from early history. There are references to the spread and practice of libation. The goddess Hathor was dedicated to her own sacrifice, and the book of Numbers 28-29 instructed the Israelis in detail how they had to perform their sacrificial sacrifices alongside fire and food sacrifices. A large number of religions have developed forms of pottery, often based on a long tradition. The Indian Ghee often plays a libatory role in Vedic rituals, which lasted until the 13th century BC, Chr. In the Japanese Shinto, whose roots lie in a pre-Buddhist agrarian animism, the cultivation of the cult takes place in a shrine usually with sacred sake. In the private area, fresh water can also be used, which is presented in unadorned porcelain or metal dishes.
