muonium
Myonium is an exotic atom from an anti-myon and an electron. The anti-myon, a myon with a positive elementary charge, has a lifetime of about 2 μs and is the proxy of the proton compared to a normal hydrogen atom. This exotic atom is one of the most fundamental systems of atomphysics. The myonium atom behaves chemically as hydrogen and is thus a hydrogen isotope which is lighter by a factor of 36. It was discovered in 1960 by Vernon Hughes and co-workers. Precise spectroscopic measurements on the atom have led to very precise values for fundamental natural constants such as the mass of the muon, the magnetic moment of the muon, and the coupling constant of the electromagnetic interaction, Sommerfeld's fine structure constants. The accuracy of the theoretical description of myonium by far exceeds that which is possible for ordinary hydrogen, since the atomic system consists solely of leptons, which may be regarded as a point.
