Oger

An ogre is a manlike monster in fairy tales, legends, fantastic or similar tales. The word has only recently been adopted from English, where it is derived from French. In German there is no exact correspondence. The French word ogre, on the other hand, was first documented in the fairy tales of Charles Perrault in 1697, For example in the Little Thumbnail. Perrault has probably taken it from the Italian author Giambattista Basile, who appears as an orco. Its origin is probably Latin orcus. Moritz Hartmann describes it in a retelling of the thumbling with "giant". The word today is a fictitious, human-like but deformed being, which is characterized by enormous body size and power. "Ogres" are ugly and shy with people. They are usually depicted as being violent and aggressive, but rather dumb. Similar to giants, they often carry a club or other clumsy weapons, but are also strong in the armed struggle.
