WHAT DOES PLASMOLYSE MEAN IN GERMAN?
plasmolysis
Plasmolysis is understood in biology to mean the shrinkage of the protoplast of a plant cell, the plasmic membrane being detached from the cell wall. To achieve this, the cell must be exposed to a plasmolytic. This is a hypertonic solution, i. A solution which contains ample salts or sugar constituents and thus has more dissolved particles than the cell-juice of the vacuole. In this case, osmotic water flows from the vacuole through the membranes into the surrounding, more concentrated medium, so that the cell-space space becomes smaller and the plasma-tube adhering to the vacuole, together with plasmalemma, is separated from the cell wall. In the case of a small wall adhesion of the plasma, the detachment is roundish; in the case of strong wall adhesion, bizarre forms are formed, in which the plasma is drawn out into thin filaments. This process is reversible, that is, reversible by deplasolysis. The state in which Protoplast is detached from the cell wall - the cell is thus no longer dominant, but is not yet plasmolysed - is called boundary plasmolysis. This is the case in an isotonic medium.
Definition of Plasmolyse in the German dictionary
Detachment of the protoplasm of a plant cell from the cell wall and contraction around the nucleus by removing water.
