The Préférence is a card game, which is very common in Austria and in eastern Central Europe. Its roots date back to the end of the 18th century; In spite of the French name, the origin of the game is more to be found in the countries of the former Austria-Hungary. In Austria the game is also called preferences.

Die Préférence ist ein Kartenspiel, das in Österreich und im östlichen Mitteleuropa sehr weit verbreitet ist. Seine Wurzeln reichen bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts zurück; trotz des französischen Namens ist der Ursprung des Spieles eher in den Ländern des ehemaligen Österreich-Ungarn zu suchen. In Österreich wird das Spiel auch Preferanzen bezeichnet.
