trypsin

Trypsin

Human trypsin is a mixture of three digestive enzymes that decompose proteins in the intestinal tract and belong to the peptidases: trypsin-1, trypsin-2 and trypsin-4. Many similar enzymes in mammals, insects, fish and fungi are also called trypsin. Lack of trypsin-1 leads to malnutrition by protein deficiency. Cause may be a mutation on the TRY1 gene. Another consequence of such a mutation is hereditary pancreatitis, in which the body-specific trypsin-1 can not be degraded and the pancreas is digested. Mutation on the gene for trypsin-2 can contribute to chronic pancreatitis.
