Weinfeld is a wilderness at the Weinfelder Maar in the Vulkaneifel 2,5 kilometers southeast of Daun. The village of Weinfeld must have been important, because the villages of Mehren, Schalkenmehren, Saxler and Udler, as well as three houses in Gemünden, which were to the left of the Lieser, belonged to the parish of Weinfeld in the 15th century. In the Middle Ages, however, the population of the village departed for plague, fire or war, or died from the plague. The village was completely abandoned until the year 1562, and the houses were used as a stone quarry over the years by the inhabitants of the neighboring villages. The pastor Peter von Mehren left the village in 1562 and moved to Schalkenmehren. The name of the town of Weinfeld is only the church consecrated to Saint Martin in its graveyard, where today the inhabitants of the town are buried. It is one of the oldest churches in the Eifel, the earliest foundations date from Roman times, as can be seen in the herringbone pattern. Possibly a Celtic sanctuary already existed at this point.
