In 1987, I was in Edinburgh doing my first one-man show. I took part in a kickabout with some fellow comedians and tripped over my trousers and heard this cracking sound in my leg. A couple of days later I went into a coma and was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism.

WHAT DOES EMBOLISM MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Embolism

In medicine, an embolism is the lodging of an embolus, which may be a blood clot, a fat globule or a gas bubble, in the bloodstream. This can cause a blockage in a blood vessel. Such a blockage may affect a part of the body distanced from the actual site of the embolism. This is in contrast to a thrombus, which causes a blockage at the site of origin. Embolization is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure, that makes specific use of thrombo-emboli to selectively block the blood supply to unwanted processes such as tumours.

Definition of embolism in the English dictionary

The first definition of embolism in the dictionary is the occlusion of a blood vessel by an embolus. Other definition of embolism is the blocking of a xylem vessel by an air bubble. Embolism is also the insertion of one or more days into a calendar, esp the Jewish calendar; intercalation.
