WHAT DOES CANEFORIAS MEAN IN SPANISH?

Caneforia

The Caneforia, also known as Proselia was the ceremony that was done among the Greeks the day before the marriage was celebrated. The wife's father and mother led her to the temple of Minerva with a basket of golden wickers filled with offerings, which they carried with great pomp, according to authors in the hands and according to others, on the head to implore the protection of the Goddess Before its new state. Suidas says it was a party in honor of Diana. Sabatier believed that it was instituted among the Athenians to honor Bacchus or according to others, in honor of Athena. At the time when this feast was being held, the young casaderas were going to offer to Bacchus certain small baskets of reeds filled with the first fruits of the season. Those who claim that this feast was done in honor of Diana say that the baskets contained some little womanly work that they offered to the Goddess to show with her that they were already in a state of being able to marry. For Theocritus, the baskets were prepared as a kind of honorable relief to the goddess Athena, protector of virginity, to abandon that state, or a ceremony to appease her anger.
