Clavariaceae

Clavariaceae

Clavariaceae, also called coral mushrooms, are mushrooms that get their name due to their coral-like growth. Initially all classified in the genus known as Clavaria, they were divided into several genera including Clavicorona, Clavulina, Clavulinopsis, Macrotyphula, Ramaria and Ramariopsis. Some similar species superficially are not as related as they may seem, genus Clavariadelphus, Ramaria and Clavulina belong to the family Gomphaceae, genus Scytinopogon and Lentaria belong to the family Thelephorales, while the genus Calocera is an entirely different organism of the class Dacrymycetes . Clavariaceae may be similar in appearance to gelatinous fungi. They often have bright colors, mainly oranges, yellows or reds, and usually grow in old forests. Some of these mushrooms are sapphagus of fallen wood, while others are diners or even parasitic.
