Macramé

It is called Macrame to the artcrat of doing decorative knots. Macramé is a word of French origin that means knot, and that in turn derives from the Turkish word makrama. This has its origin in the Persian word mikrama with the same meaning. It is a very old art, since only the hands are used to execute it. Peoples like the Persians and Assyrians used this art with great mastery. Later, the Arabs took him to Europe and later the Europeans to America, where the Caribbeans used this art to make their typical knot hammocks. The basic macramé has numerous knots, among them the flat knot and the knot cote, creating borders or braids to decorate bags or fabrics, flowerpots, lamps, wall hangings and curtains. In the current macramé, you can find more than 50 different knots. The materials needed to make a macrame work are the yarn to be woven and a surface to hold the work we are doing.
