Macramé

Macramê is a technique of weaving yarn that does not use any type of machinery or tool. It is a form of manual weaving. Working with the fingers, the threads intersect and are trapped by us, forming geometric crosses, fringes and a plethora of decorative shapes. The macrame has two more known forms of braiding: the point "festonê" and the point "double knot", in the first two threads are used a stretched and the other links forming knots, in the second three threads are used a stretched in the middle and the two others enclose forming knots. The word macramê means "knot." There are versions that say that the word comes from Arabic, others from Turkish, others from French. More likely is the origin of the Arab migramah, which means ornamental fringe. With the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, the technique was introduced in Spain and later throughout Europe. It is an art that originated in prehistory, when man learned to tie fibers to wrap himself up and create objects. It was spread throughout the world by sailors who used the technique to create maritime objects that they exchanged in the places where they landed. A palavra macramê significa "nó".
