Vuelta magazine was founded in 1976 by the Mexican poet Octavio Paz and a prominent group of intellectuals from various parts of Latin America and the rest of the world. In a way, it began to be published under the name of Plural in 1971. Plural's economic support was provided by the Mexican newspaper Excélsior, and although the views between the two publications were very different, mutual tolerance was almost Always stronger than the ideological gaps of their respective directors. In fact, on several occasions Paz commented that, in the mid-1970s, when the conflict that led to the expulsion of its editor Julio Scherer García from the newspaper, all staff resigned, as did the editorial staff of Plural . According to The New York Times the intellectual and critical "diaspora" that occurred at that time was provoked by a reaction of the ex-president of Mexico Luis Echeverría Álvarez. In a way this fact was a closure to the liberal tone that began during that particular political period.

Definition of vuelta in the Spanish dictionary
