एक प्रकार का मोटा द्विदल अन्न ।

में बोया जाता है । इसके लिये अच्छी तरह और गहरी
जोती हुई भूमि और खाद की आवश्यकता होती है । इसमें
एक प्रकार की लंबी फलियाँ लगती हैं जिन्हें छीमी या
छींबी कहते हैं और जिनके अंदर गोल दाने रहते हैं । आरंभ
में ये दाने बहुत ही मीठे और स्वादिष्ट होते हैं और प्रायः
तरकारी आदि के काम में आते हैं । जब फलियाँ पक
जाती हैं, तब उनके दानों से दाल बनाई जाती है अथवा
रोटी के लिये उसका आटा पीसा जाता है । कहीं कहीं इसका
सत्तू गी बनता है । इसकी पत्तियाँ और डठल पशुओं के चारे के लिये बहुत उपयोगी होते है । यह दो प्रकार का होता है ।
एक को दुबिया और दूसरे को काबुली मटर या केराव कहते
हैं । वैद्यक में इसे मधुर, स्वादिष्ट शीतल, पित्तनाशक,
रुचिकारक, वातकारक, पुष्टिजनक, मल को निबारनेवाला
और रक्तविकार को दूर करनेवाला माना है ।
