Culteranism or Culteranism or Gongorism is an aesthetic of Spanish Baroque in the more general scope of Concettism, with which it divides the intention to rarefice and calibrate expression, separating it from the balance and clarity of classics, but with the opposite procedure, that is, expanding meaning into a more aesthetic expression, not to clarify the message by the paraphrase process, but rather to impress and confuse with the labyrinth, the sensory and the evanescent of expression, and to apply essentially to the lyrical and verse genres instead of the prose. Culter's style is a non-paraffinic amplification as it does not pretend to exemplify but to delight with the intellectual exercise of the enigma. This aesthetic is also known as Gongorism by the name of its greatest Spanish exponent, the poet cordoned Luis de Góngora, who contributed to creating it by giving it its definitive form. In other countries there was a similar aesthetic: in Italy Marinism; Preciousness in France and Euphoria in Great Britain, having already a precedent in Spain in the 16th century, Friar Antonio de Guevara.

Il Culteranesimo o Culteranismo o Gongorismo è un'estetica del Barocco spagnolo nell'ambito più generale del Concettismo, con il quale divide l'intenzione di rarefare e calibrare l'espressione separandola dall'equilibrio e chiarezza dei classici, ma con il procedimento opposto, cioè dilatando il significato in una maggiore espressione estetica, non per chiarire il messaggio mediante il procedimento della parafrasi, ma piuttosto per impressionare e confondere con il labirintico, il sensoriale e l'evanescente dell'espressione, ed applicarsi fondamentalmente al genere lirico e al verso invece che alla prosa. Lo stile culterano è un'amplificazione non parafrastica in quanto non pretende esplicare ma dilettare con l'esercizio intellettuale dell'enigma. Si conosce quest'estetica anche come Gongorismo dal nome del suo maggior esponente spagnolo, il poeta cordovano Luis de Góngora, il quale contribuì a crearla dandole la sua forma definitiva. In altri paesi è esistita un'estetica similare: in Italia il Marinismo; il Preziosismo in Francia e l'Eufuismo in Gran Bretagna, avendo già un precedente in Spagna nel secolo XVI, frate Antonio de Guevara.
