mortar
Gupo is a howitzer. Compared to the forklift, the diameter is very large and the thick barrel is like a mortar. It was mainly used for attacking fortress fortress from the Middle Ages to modern times. The ballistics was so high that the accuracy was low, but it was not a big problem as long as the goal was a fortress. In the Middle Ages, stones or simple metal rings were used as projectiles, but in the modern era, penetrations or grenades were used. In the early days, there were many decorations, but the decoration became mainstream from the 20th century. It is a different concept from a mortar, but it is often misinterpreted as mortar mortar in English. Generally, infantry jurisdiction is called a mortar. In the case of the Japanese military, it is called gupo, mortar, and infantry howitzer. Prior to World War II, the German army also clearly separated the mortar from the Gupo and called the mortar Granatwerfer and the Gupo the Mörser. In modern warfare, the word mortar usually refers to a mortar because it is not used.
