Latin empire
The Latin Empire or the Latin Empire of Constantinople refers to the Crusader Empire built on the Byzantine city of Constantinople. In the year 1204, the Fourth Crusade took over the Byzantine Empire and set up their empire by attacking Constantinople, not by attacking the Muslims of the Venetian Republic. On May 16, 1204, the Crusaders established the Count of Flanders as the first Emperor, and then ruled Constantinople for 57 years. The region directly controlled by the emperor of the Latin empire is confined to the coasts of Constantinople and the Bosphorus, but it has several provinces in the Greek coast and the Aegean region. The great powers of the Latin Empire, such as the Principality of Athens, are also considered to be part of the Latin Empire in a broad sense.
