कापूस हा वनस्पतीपासून मिळणारा आणि सेल्युलोजयुक्त तंतू पूर्वापार मोठय़ा प्रमाणात वापरला जाणारा तंतू आहे. कापूस हे एक नगदी पिक आहे, कपाशी या झाडापासून कापूस मिळवला जातो यालाच पांढरे सोने असेही म्हटले जाते. कापसापासून धागे मिळवले जातात. धाग्यांपासून कापड तयार केले जाते. पेक्टिकद्रव्य, प्रथिन द्रव्ये, मेण, राख आणि आर्द्रता यांचा समावेश कापसाच्या तंतूमध्ये असतो. कापसाला पाण्याचे आकर्षण आहे. सुती कपडे घातल्यास हाच गुणधर्म घाम टिपून घ्यायला मदत करतो.
