Lima is Peru's capital and largest city. The city is located at the Chillon River, River Rímac and Lurín River. Five were founded by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535. During Spanish occupation, Lima became an important city in the Peruvian Wizurai. After Peruvian Independence War, Lima became the capital of the Republic of Peru. One third of the population of Peru lives in Lima.
