Petroleum is a type of dark and concentrated liquid which is also called black gold. The term "petroleum" was first used in the work entitled De Natura Fossilium, published in 1546 by a German-made mineralogist named Georg Bauer, also known as Georgius Agricola. Petroleum is usually a compound of various hydrocarbons, especially alkanes series, and is usually found at the top of the crust. The main use of petroleum is as a source of energy to mobilize vehicles. Besides fuel and lubricants, petroleum is also used in various industries such as solvent, fertilizer, pesticides, soap and detergents, perfumes, plastics, explosives and others.
