Kini, seramai 15,852 orang dilaporkan menghidap penyakit batuk kering di negara ini pada 2003 iaitu bersamaan dengan kadar insiden sebanyak 64 kes bagi setiap 100,000 penduduk menurut lapuran Timbalan Menteri Kesihatan Datuk Dr. Abdul Latiff Ahmad. Secara umumnya, terdapat penurunan trend kadar insiden batuk kering di Malaysia iaitu pada kadar dua peratus setahun sejak sepuluh tahun lepas. Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia juga mendapati imunisasi BCG yang diberikan kepada bayi baru lahir tidak memberi perlindungan sepenuhnya terhadap jangkitan batuk kering. Imunisasi BCG hanya melindungi kanak-kanak daripada mendapat penyakit batuk kering yang teruk.
