Averroes - a philosopher, theologian, physician, lawyer, politician and mathematician from Cordoba, exiled for unconvincing philosophical views; He died in exile in Marrakesh. Averroes was fascinated by the philosophy of Aristotle, whom he considered to be the greatest man in history and whose works he commented upon. The most famous is his theory of "two truths" and views on the human soul. He thought it was immortal only as one soul of mankind, and individual souls died after the death of the body. Averroes tried to reconcile his philosophical views with orthodox Islamic theology, claiming that religious truths are another interpretation of the truths that discern the philosophy, but there is no contradiction between them. Through Averroes, Western scholars learned most of Aristotle's works, and with them classical logic. His translations into Arabic were translated into Latin by Spanish and Sicilian scholars, which was of great importance for scholastic studies. His comments were so accurate that after Thomas Aquinas Awerroes was simply called Commentator.

Awerroes był zafascynowany filozofią Arystotelesa, którego uważał za największego człowieka w dziejach i którego dzieła komentował. Najbardziej znana jest jego teoria „dwóch prawd” oraz poglądy na duszę ludzką. Uważał on, że jest ona nieśmiertelna tylko jako jedna dusza ludzkości, a indywidualne dusze giną po śmierci ciała. Awerroes starał się uzgodnić swoje poglądy filozoficzne z ortodoksyjną teologią islamską, twierdząc, że prawdy religijne są inną interpretacją prawd, które odkrywa filozofia, ale nie ma między nimi sprzeczności. Za pośrednictwem Awerroesa zachodni uczeni poznali większość dzieł Arystotelesa, a razem z nimi klasyczną logikę. Jego przekłady na arabski zostały przez hiszpańskich i sycylijskich uczonych przełożone na łacinę, co miało ogromne znaczenie dla studiów scholastycznych. Jego komentarze były tak trafne, że za Tomaszem z Akwinu Awerroes był nazywany po prostu Komentatorem.
