Pharmacopoeia
Pharmacopoeia - an official list of medicines authorized in a given country or territory, and the same reserved list of raw materials for the manual preparation of some of these medicines in a pharmacy. Provides a description of all these substances, their storage and access to prescribers, types of packaging, authorized distribution methods, dosage, quality control methods and, in the case of medicines made in the pharmacy, methods of preparing them. It also describes methods of drug identification, standardization, naming and possible alternatives. Once a pharmacopoeia also included methods of obtaining these substances from natural sources including their occurrences, description of suitable plants and minerals, determination of permissible impurities, potency, description of management of overdose etc. In Poland, the official pharmacopoeias are Pharmacopoeia Poland issued by the Registration Office Medicines, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products. Descriptions of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical raw materials in pharmacopoeias are called monographs.
