Moher - angora goat wool. The origin of the name is disputed. For example, Wladyslaw Kopalinski gives an etymology from the Arabic flyjjar. The Collaborative International Dictionary of English also suggests the origin of fr. moire - reminiscent of marble. The place of origin of the mohair is given to Tibet, but images of Babylon are also known, depicting the people in clothes in a characteristic fashioned way, indicating that they may have been made of mohair. Mohair production was known in Asia Minor. Europe's first goats arrived in Europe in 1554. However, they did not develop their kennels. By the end of the eighteenth century, angora was sought to bring to Sweden, Venice, Germany and England, but without success. Due to the difficulty of obtaining raw material, mohair fabrics were very expensive. An example of a great value for them can be found in the record of the Wiśnicka book of criminals of the seventeenth century, describing the cases of mohair robbery.

Moher – wełna z kóz angorskich. Pochodzenie nazwy jest sporne. Np. Władysław Kopaliński podaje etymologię z arabskiego muchajjar. The Collaborative International Dictionary of English sugeruje też pochodzenie z fr. moire – przypominający marmur. Jako miejsce pochodzenia moheru podawany jest Tybet, ale znane są też wizerunki pochodzące z Babilonu, przedstawiające ludzi w ubraniach w sposób charakterystyczny zmechaconych, co wskazuje na to, że mogły być one wykonane z moheru. Produkcja moheru znana była w Azji Mniejszej. Do Europy pierwsze kozy angorskie dotarły w 1554. Nie udało się wtedy jednak rozwinąć ich hodowli. Z końcem XVIII w. próbowano sprowadzić kozy angorskie do Szwecji, Wenecji, Niemiec oraz Anglii, jednak bez sukcesu. W związku z trudnością ze zdobyciem surowca tkaniny moherowe były bardzo drogie. Jako przykład wskazujący na dużą ich wartość posłużyć może zapisek z Wiśnickiej księgi złoczyńców z XVII wieku, opisujący przypadki kradzieży moherowych sukni.
