Mozzetta

Mucet

Mucet - a bedspread reaching to the elbows, part of the costume of the Catholic clergy. It is a cassock cover, covering the shoulders to the elbows, with buttons on the chest. The mozzetty color indicates the hierarchical rank of the wearer. The bishops wear purple, red cardinals, for the popes are reserved white and crimson. Popes wear two versions of mozzetta - summer, sewn from silk and winter. Even in the 17th century it was worn by popes throughout the year. John Paul II used only a silk white mozzette as opposed to his successor and predecessor. Pope Benedict XVI has restored the tradition of wearing the winter mozzette by popes. During the Easter period, the pope carried a mucet of white color, also called the paschal mucet. Jan Paweł II używał jedynie jedwabnej, białej mozzetty w przeciwieństwie do swego następcy i poprzedników. Papież Benedykt XVI przywrócił tradycję noszenia mozzetty zimowej przez papieży. W okresie wielkanocnym papież nosił mucet koloru białego, zwany także mucetem paschalnym.
