Underground Publishing House

Wydawnictwo podziemne

Underground publications - publications issued in countries where censorship was in force. These were non-bitter publications, ie without permission for distribution by a competent office, often ignoring copyright. They have been spent in publications ranging from a dozen copies to several or even tens of thousands of copies by illegal publishers or by private individuals. Some of these illegal institutions have transformed themselves into normally prosperous publishing houses after 1989. Such publications, for example in the USSR, were called "samizdat". This term dates back to the 1940s, when the poet Nikolai Głazkow used it to name the works of poetry published in the form of manuscripts. The name "samizdat" was commonly accepted for the definition of underground publications in English-language publications, when under this title was organized in New York organized exhibition of dissident art. Underground publications are also called the third circulation in Poland in the 1980s. Termin ten pochodzi z lat czterdziestych, kiedy to poeta Nikołaj Głazkow użył go dla nazwania rozpowszechnianych w formie maszynopisów zbiorów swoich poezji.
